For 39 years the Ronald McDonald House has been helping families with seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby Seattle Children’s Hospital. Allowing them to stay together, focus on their child’s healing and not worry about basics like a place to stay, or their next meal.
On June 17, a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony was held marking the completion of the newly constructed Ronald McDonald House Expansion. It incorporates renovations to House A (original 48 rooms in built in 2003) including another family kitchen, larger communal dining room, expansive food storage pantry and a dedicated volunteer Meal Program cooking space.
The connecting new building includes 25 family guest rooms with full occupancy scheduled for early July. Combined with House B (10 self-contained bone marrow transplant apartments built in 2003) and House C (22 rooms built in 1983) the total campus can accommodate up to 105 families per night. That will certainly help to relieve the existing 40 family waiting list.
“It gives us great joy to welcome back volunteers to the House. We appreciate your patience and support throughout the last two years, and we are eager to see you in person! As we begin this process, we are implementing new safety measures to ensure the well-being of our visitors and families.”
After a 27 month pause, I am honored to be back on the Meal Program Culinary Staff. Please help the House ease back to normal. Refer to the updated volunteer guidelines https://www.rmhcseattle.org/volunteer/groups/
Thanks!
Love this!!
Glad you are back, Keith! It made me so happy to see you in the kitchen helping yesterday.
Thanks Heather. I didn’t live through the remodel/construction like you did so returning after being gone for 27 months was very surreal. Like going to your 20-year high school reunion, very familiar, yet strange at the same time. I am very happy to be back and to help the House slowly “get back to where it once belonged.”
