It was the intent of the Founding Fathers when they created the Constitution of the United States that the leadership would consist of three separate but equal branches of government. Whose responsibility it was not only to govern the nation, but to provide checks and balances on each other.

• The LEGISLATIVE branch (Congress) was to consist of members of the Senate and the House of Representatives elected by the people whose purpose was to create the laws.
• The JUDICIAL branch was to consist of the Supreme and lower courts whose purpose was to interpret the laws.
• The EXECUTIVE branch was to consist of the President whose purpose was to enforce the laws.

Sadly, today the Founding Fathers intent of three separate but equal branches of government for checks and balances has gone to the wayside. Congress has all but abandoned its Constitutional responsibilities and its ability to effectively serve as a check on the President.

Today there are only two branches. One consisting of the President and his supporters in Congress and in the Federal Bench. The other consisting of those opposed to the President, his opponents in Congress and the partisan members of the Federal Bench.

The US federal government leadership is broken. The 327 million residents who seek political and moral guidance at a time when we desperately need it most (during the deadly pandemic) are lost and confused. We see an administration that blurs decency and kindness, cheapens human life, and breeds ill will and suspicion. But don’t be discouraged. Don’t despair for our country. Have faith that the essential decency, compassion and common sense of the American people, one nation under God, will prevail. Like a renaissance.

And the Founding Fathers can finally rest in peace.
