“Today you are you, that is truer than true.”
The 2nd of March marked the 117th birthday of Dr. Suess.
“There is no one alive who is youer than you.”
March is also Read Across America month sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA). Read Across America: Frequently Asked Questions | NEA
With the help of the books of Dr. Suess, it promotes opportunities for families and children to read together throughout the year. It encourages books of diversity where children can see themselves reflected in, as well as books that allow them to see a world or a character that might be different from their own.
“You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes”
As an indie-author of historical fiction novels, I’ve discovered that my heart really belongs to the creation of Children’s Picture Books. With many already in the works, my first one, Have You Seen Green? was published in November, 2020. Have You Seen Green?: Canedo, Keith: 9781647506674: Amazon.com: Books
My book pays homage to children’s author, illustrator and poet, Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Suess. After writing Have You Seen Green?, years of submittals to agents/publishers ended in a string of rejections. I was discouraged and felt like quitting. But I called upon Dr. Suess for encouragement and the will to continue. After all, his first published book And To Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street in 1937 was rejected by publishers up to 43 times. No better example of perseverance with a book of your own creation that you truly believe in.
“You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.”
Yes, thanks to you Dr. Suess, I’m off and away and will always be grateful. And what a legacy, I am only one of many in generations to come, that will benefit from standing on your shoulders.
