Seattle’s Unique Lives & Experiences lecture series in May at McCaw Hall billed it as an evening with a living legend. After a delicious dinner of Pumpkin Kee Mao and Chicken Rama at the Bahn Thai, we crossed the street, where Deanna and I settled into our seats to enjoy the one and only Mr. Bob Newhart.

Only 89-years-young, he still headlines around the country with his distinctive brand of stand-up. Accomplishments are many with accolades including the “Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize,” induction into the TV Academy’s “Hall of Fame” and a star on the “Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

I grew up watching both the “Bob Newhart Show” and “Newhart” and laughed along with my family including my other brother Darryl. I was overjoyed when in 2013, he received his first Emmy as Professor Proton on “The Big Bang Theory.”

He’s been entertaining the world for over half a century, but seeing him LIVE and experiencing his dead-pan and honest humor was a privilege, like watching a true American treasure.

And thank God, it wasn’t only a dream.
