Well it’s been about a year since I made a 2019 New Year’s Resolution. The goal was to improve my health for the sake of my family, specifically my two daughters.

Being a Type 2 diabetic for 23 years I needed to take control as it got progressively worse (2 injections of insulin/day and numerous oral meds). I suffered from high blood pressure, and cholesterol, chronic fatigue, diabetic neuropathy and a BMI (Body Mass Index) in the overweight category.

After many failed attempts at formal diets (where I always reverted back) and extensive research I discovered INTERMITTENT FASTING, right up my alley. I started my IF regiment Feb 1, 2019 with a few life changing goals in mind. It was flexible, simple and most importantly FREE (no need to buy pre-packaged food, or powdered supplements which I couldn’t afford anyway).

In conjunction with daily HIIT (high intensity impact training) done at home I utilized the 18/6 IF method. Most of the time (remember it’s flexible to comply with whatever life throws at you) I fasted for 18 hours (4PM-10:00AM) with an eating window of 6 hours (10:00AM-4:00PM). I practiced either OMAD (one meal a day) or 2MAD (two meals a day) depending on my work schedule. What I ate was loosely based on the KETO requirements (low carbs and sugar) and caloric intake based on the BMR (Basic Metabolic Rate), both used only as guidelines.

Summary of results:
Daily insulin is 25 units (down from 185 units)
Reduced oral diabetic meds
BP and Cholesterol profiles are in acceptable ranges
Better sleep/increased energy
BMI normal
Weight loss-60 pounds*
*have to buy new clothes, but that’s OK.

INTERMITTENT FASTING is a lifestyle change of routine, consistency and patience. It improves physical health, mental clarity and induces Autophagy. Do your own on-line investigation (many great resources out there) and see if it is right for you. Like I said, it is very flexible, simple and FREE. If it didn’t work, I wouldn’t have the improved health I enjoy today and will look forward to with my kids for the rest of my life.
