Once we were artists, crafting drawings by hand

Creating designs in section and plan

With triangle, T-square and graphite lead

Painting on a canvas of vellum instead

Once we were artists, pen and ink engineering

Our creative images were disappearing

Pencils were swapped with computer-aid

I guess speed supersedes the old-school trade

Once we were artists, our drawings express

industrial know-how for project success

But CAD inexperience exposes the fact

it’s designer knowledge, they sadly lack

Now THEY are the artists, and must understand

To never forget on whose shoulders they stand

With CAD technology new eras begin,

But you can’t know where you’re going,

until you know where you’ve been.
