I have been approached by a book to film company that feels the story in my novel UNFOLDING, As It Should would make a successful feature film.
Making a Pitch to studio’s requires a screenplay. So, I am attempting to write one based on my novel. I am discovering that turning a 400-page novel into a 90-minute movie screenplay requires a vastly different mindset. Making the existing overall story structure of a novel fit into the visual, sound, and dialog storytelling of a screenplay is very challenging, especially for a novelist.
Fortunately, I am working with my eldest daughter, Micaela. She has her MFA in screenwriting and has taught at Loyola Marymount University in Southern California. The fun and exciting biproduct of my screenplay journey is this father-daughter collaboration.
I am learning a lot and couldn’t be in better hands.
I’ll keep you posted.
